The World Bank is preparing new projects to support small and medium-sized businesses in Kyrgyzstan, taking into account the economic downturn. Presently, the organization’s priority is to fight against the negative consequences of the coronavirus outbreak.
The vice president of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia, Anna Bjerde, announced this yesterday, on June 16, during a video conference with the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sooronbai Jeenbekov.
Bjerde noted that the World Bank had allocated $ 21 million to the health sector of the Kyrgyz Republic to combat the pandemic.
The parties discussed the current situation and the prospects of bilateral cooperation, the progress of joint projects, and measures to address the negative economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
Jeenbekov stressed that the Kyrgyz side was committed to more active and close collaboration with their development partners. The bank was one of the first to start providing support to Kyrgyzstan in the fight against the coronavirus infection. The head of state expressed his readiness to work actively on the implementation of projects in the fields of energy, transport, agriculture, regional development and provision of the population with clean water, despite the pandemic.
Bjerde was pleased to note the active cooperation of the Kyrgyz side with the offices of the World Bank.
